  • What makes a wine a 100 points as opposed to a 98 or 95 point wine.
Firstly I have to say that I am fortunate to be on Harbison's mailing list. I get my tiny allocation every year. I deal with Pat Harbison who is a lovely lady if a little eccentric. This wine sells for $300 to $400 a bottle on average with tax and shipping. For the quality of wine and the tiny production it's great value.
When I drink a wine its all about the Taste, Finish and Memory. I normally can't give you a detailed description of the breakdown of the wine but when I taste the wine, if it tastes great and the finish goes on forever it's a great wine. As for memory, I remember every 100 point wine I have had over the last 10 years or longer and a 2011 Screaming Eagle I had in April was close but not quite a 100 points. Gonna open a 2013 Screaming Eagle in 2 years for my 65th Birthday.

  • Decanted and served. Quite an interesting wine but extremely youthful. Nose of cola and sherry. On the palate fine, chewy tannins with medium body and heavy notes of black cherry. It will be interesting to follow this wine's development.

  • Similar notes one year later. Bumped it 1 point. This is special. This tasting note is for all you golfers. Was out out Burning Tree and Congressional last week with upcoming rounds at Erin Hills and Baltusrol. Certainly not bragging. Rather feeling lucky and fortunate. As such thought it was appropriate to pop something special and reflect on that. This wine will make you sit back and forget about the negativity or issues in this world. Similar to when playing golf on a quiet special golf course. These types of escapes are so special and this when delivers. Still way too young to drink and would like to convince myself to hold the 100 RP pointer for another decade+ to truly taste heaven. Though for now carpe diem.

  • This wine is not for the faint of heart. It's expensive, hard to secure and a high octane massive wine. I just received a few and had to pop one. Very early, I know, but I have loved the last three vintages. I did decant for 6 hours which opened up the wine. Full of fruit, aromatics, and the Bevan mouthfeel that I just love. It is so dark, rich and powerful but not over extracted or jammy. This wine is beast mode in a great way. Love it. Had it alongside a 13 Buccella which was also good, but this was better.
