Had this at the Mark restaurant at the hotel by same name, BTW, a disappointing quality drop from last time a year ago. I’d wonder if that influenced our opinion, but the Barolo we had after drank well. No, having come to love Pichon since 1982, this one disappointed at this date. It had a chance to breathe, but that didn’t get it past the too young stage. This will likely please me, but not for another 2 or 3 years, perhaps even 3 or 4. Never a reason to rush Bordeaux, and a mature Bordeaux is such a treat, so I would drink something older and let this one lie for a while

2015 Medium purple in the glass. Loved this vintage - bold juicy and fresh with plums, blackberries, chocolate and vanilla. All the elegance and structure - tannins are softening, silky smooth, long finish. Found the french oak very pronounced in this tasting which I loved. Drinking very well now.

Suckling Wines of the World: always hard to fully appreciate this amongst so many wines to try but at least this had some maturity. This had all the hallmarks of a fine Pichon Lalande with elegance, black fruits and a long finish and is obviously a wine that is only going to improve with time.

Mocha, violets, cassis, graphite. Such wonderful acidity. Oak is completely integrated at this point. Classic Bordeaux done so well. Drinking beautifully with 5-6 hour decant (though easily has another decade ahead).

Lovely deep purple in the glass. Clean on the nose, no unwelcome alcohol smell, nor is there any earthy undertones. In the mouth it is superb: fruit driven but not sweet; there are some proper tannins too - which I am sure will fade and integrate with time, but they are not unwelcome or unpleasant now. Drunk with roast sirloin of beef - and it's an excellent wine for that classic pairing - but it is light enough that you could consider it instead of a Burgundy with pork.
This is definitely approachable and delicious now but will surely be even better in another few years (or more!).
