  • Wine tasting in Greece; 4/28/2017-5/6/2017 (Athens, Santorini and Porto Heli): From the wine list at Ambrosia, Santorini. This wine is a bit on the lighter, fruitier side with a good dose of acidity. Detailed notes are lacking here but my impression, was more on the meh side - no need to try again.

  • A blend of Mavrotragano (50%), Voudomato (45%) and Athiri (5%); aged for 8 months in 2nd use oak barrels.

Clear, medium deep, translucent ruby red color with youthful, pale purple highlights. Somewhere between a light red wine and a deep rosé wine. Crisp and refreshing nose with quite dry aromas of cherry, some ground aromatic herbs, a hint of vegetal greenness and a whiff of smoky and stony minerality. Light, lively and quite acid-driven palate with flavors of sour cherry, cherry marmalade, stony minerality and ripe cranberry. Very modest and easy tannins. Lively, juicy and focused finish with stony minerality, sour cherry, lingonberry, some greenness and nice acid brightness.

A nice, enjoyable wine that looks like a red wine but drinks more like a white wine. Lovely freshness, good typical Santorini characteristics of minerals and high acidity, all wrapped up in nice, understated complexity. Nothing super-impressive, but a good wine nevertheless. Recommended.
