91+ pts

  • Very ripe fruit: orange, apple, some pear. With aeration some idione and sea shell notes appear. Not a bad wine, but not at the level a typical Clos should be. Clearly a matter of the vintage (hot).

  • In the context of things a major disappointment. If tasted blind I would never have guessed Grand Cru Chablis basic entry level perhaps. I do get a reality check when having paid good money for a wine of repute it does not deliver. There is merest hint aromatically that you are drinking a chardonnay, on the palette the overall balance of the wine feels very awkward and the finish is totally flat just how I feel about this offering !! On the positive side I have enjoyed wines from Jean Paul Droin in the past and did find that some wines need considerable bottle age before showing their best.

  • A broad, fat, full-flavoured Chablis. Plenty of ripe peach and good volume and density in the mouth. There is something minerally buried under all of the flesh. It has a floral/heady note and is sweet of fruit.
