Comprised of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, Rodney Strong's 2013 Alexander's Crown is an opaque red/garnet wine to be coveted by those who love ripe New World fruit. Blackberries, dark cherries, licorice, iron, allspice and loamy earth are supported by fresh acidity, seamless alcohol (listed as 14.5%) and a fair amount toasted oak. The tannins are the devils that lie in the details. At this stage they are still abundant and rustic, rendering this one of those potentially outstanding wines that is running the fruit vs. tannins race. I would not be afraid to pop a cork now or any time beyond this point in the wine's evolution (because there are no guarantees that the fruit will outlast the tannins). Drink now-2033.

Dark medium ruby; medium nose of pepper, eucalyptus and cassis; pfn with addition of cocoa; dry; medium plus body; medium plus acidity; high tannins; medium plus finish; lovely wine - although price point is a little high

Hennepin Lake Tasting 2018; 10/11/2018-10/14/2018 (Minneapolis, MN): Wow got to taste 3 Single Vineyard Rodney Strong wines so who ever was talking about them at the Henn Lake Tasting well done! This was the best of the 3 with spices, currants, blueberries and mild oak. Complex wine and medium plus finish. Excellent.

Black fruit and blueberry plus some spices (cloves??). Soft tannins, smooth mouth-feel, lingering finish.
