  • Last bottle unfortunately. Very creamy and juicy, more peach than lemon this time. Crowd pleaser.

  • Christmas Family Dinner 2016:

    1. NV Jacquart Brut Mosaique 88p
Very nice apero, good balanced Champagne with apples, toast, and chalk.

    2. NV Geldermann Carte Blanche 86p
German Sekt, produced with methode champenoise from Chenin Blanc grapes; spent 2 years in the bottle before release. A bit sweeter than the Jacquart we had before. Floral notes, similar mousseux.

    3. 2011 Petaluma Riesling Hanlin Hill 92p (magnum)
Last of three magnums we got from Brooke and Bec for our wedding. Similar notes as last christmas: lots of petrol, citrus fruits, long finish. Wish I had more!

    4. 2015 Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern Eltviller Riesling Baroness Andrea 89p (2 bottles)
Same note as 2 months ago: "Medium to dark yellow colour. Exotic nose. Great balanced acidity with some sour lemon, peach, herbs, little RS. Typical mineralic Rheingau notes, creamy finish."

    5. 2013 Weingut R & A Pfaffl Excellent 91p+
Decanted for 3 hours. Dark, almost black colour. Made from 60% Zweigelt, 20% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. I fully agree with the notes on the Pfaffl homepage: "Dark purple; dark fruit with tender smokey tones in the nose, plum jam; elegant and power ful with a fulminant pressure on the palate. Good structured, an idea of chocolate and elegant tannines. Fruity and a creamy-tender character, wonderful lenght. Ideally for a good piece of grilled meat."
Very, very young with lots of potential. I never had a wine before that had such intense dark chocolate flavours. Very long finish.

    6. 2008 Chateau de Fieuzal 90p (3 bottles)
Decanted for 3 hours. Bought 6 bottles in November for 120€. Kirsch and coffee nose. Very accessible with kirsch, leather, and coffee notes; round tannins and long finish. Perfect drinking window right now.
