Slightly better than last time. This is turning savory. The notes of soy sauce are starting to pop. It is definitely modern in style and the oak is there but it is not overly prominent. The grip is losing harshness. This reminds me a lot of the '97 Pio Cesare I had last year. I'm willing to bet meat and iron will pop next time. The tertiaries are developing now. Moving my dates to drink a year from now.

Tannins are noticeable but not as angular as before. This is getting darker and oakier however. It lacks the subtle nose of rose petals and light ruby color of classic Barolo. It was open for 3 days and although the tannins subsided, its dark notes did not. It may be too modern in style for my taste.

Wineberserker's offline: Tartufo Bianco (San Carlos, CA): Medium ruby, darker than the other Nebbiolo tonight; deeper black fruits on the nose, deeper, less of the tar and roses that I expected; palate is full bodied, high tannins that still need years, rough texture, drying, not much fruit; short-medium finish. This is either too young, too modern, or lacking fruit but it pales in comparison to the other nebbiolo tonight. 86

Barolo and Barbaresco at I Nonni (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): Medium dark red color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. OK, ripe and firm, maple, quite a bit of earth and some funk, sour cherry.
