  • Slo-oxed for 15 minutes. The color was a clear light to medium violet. Some red and dark red fruits on the nose. The medium bodied palate showed some red fruits (red cherry and raspberry), some darker red fruits (black cherry), a good dose of spice and some earth. The acidity was vibrant and any tannins were completely integrated in this easy drinking "feminine" pinot.
Drank this along side the 2015 vintage of the same wine (half bottle each on 10/10 and the other half bottle each on 10/13 -- preserved in a 375 ml screw cap bottle with no air). See that TN.

  • Popped and poured. I always seem to drink my Martinelli wines young. This is probably the first time I have let one go for 7 years in the cellar--and then, only because I didn't even realize it was still there til I did a major inventory last weekend. So this is an acid test of sorts. It certainly still looks good, although with a bit of browning at the rim if I'm not imagining things. Nose very sweet and ripe; not much nuance. But on the palate, it is a different story. Still decidedly sweet, this has more complexity than the younger PNs I have had from Martinelli in the past (probably close to 30 bottles over the years). Very sweet red cherry, but with a fine bead of acidity running through. Definitely a hedonistic, flashy, fleshpot of a wine, probably not good with any food except tangy barbeque, but still attractive for the style. Those who lean to more earthy, restrained American Pinots or Burgundy probably won't appreciate this (though I include myself in that demographic), but hey, it takes all kinds. What this does tell me is that these wines can age without going over the edge or fading into oblivion. In fact, this wine shows no signs that is in danger of giving up the ghost anytime soon. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.

  • Coying sweetness on the finish. Elected to pass drinking any more after first glass.

  • Gorgeous wine. Such ripe and spicy fruit. In a perfect place right now. This is a big wine but quite light in its feet with bright cherry notes and nutmeg and cinnamon flavors. Loved it.
