Decanted for 1h, lots of precipitation. Initial impression is fruity Paso-Cornas, that faded quickly. Air ripened the wine, softened the acid, and brought the tannin, oak and booze to the party. Big, jammy flavors replaced the restrained fruit, lamb's leather, black olive, and floral notes, alcohol heat became prevalent. Full body, tannin over acid big time. I do not recommend decanting. There still is some floral eau du vie scents, which I liked. Seems like a wine to drink younger, as young as this is. Shame. Overall, seems like over ripe fruit, extended maceration, and loads of new oak. Expensive wine making doesn't make great wine, it can just make expensive wine; and I feel this is that at $50, overpriced. Copain has put out so much more for so much less.

Denner keeps reminding me just how good a Syrah can be in the right hands and in the right location, with just the right amount of age.
