I thought this was burgundy, first time with this wine, and certainly one I am looking to revisit, white stone fruit, marzipan, baking spices yet crushed stones, chalky acidity, layered mid-palate long finish.

90-91 pts

Fascinating flavor profile. Citrus and flower with light minerality and some mushroom and earthy notes. Honeyed. 8 years old and still young and fresh.

Leaf Day. Drank with charcuterie platter (salumis and cheese)
PnP and this poured a beautifully elegant deep golden colour. The nose immediately greeted with notes of lemon curd and cream before quickly giving way to aromas dominated by fall orchard fruit and traces of limestone.
Palate was long with medium acidity and despite the nose suggesting apricot and golden apple the wine definitely still retained minerality and slightly dry lemon rind delivered a pleasant taste profile overall. Credit as the balance of cream intertwined is just the right amount - not overbearing.
Being a 2014 this really did reflect, at least in part, the hot vintage and despite having some brilliantly cohesive and complex chardonnays from Checkmate I have to admit this one left a little bit to be desired. I'd like to say it will go further but I don't think it really improves much at this point and I would drink now.
Overall very nice but I struggle to say it left much of a lasting impression. 90 pts.
