  • This is a smooth, elegant, rich Cabernet Sauvignon drinking at its peak. Tannins resolved, bouquet and flavors are all seamless, linear cocoa, with no rough edges. Soft and sexy, but voluptuous. Won't remind anyone of a top-notch bottling, but has mellowed nicely into this nice warm, inviting, comfortable wine. Pretty stuff. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.

  • was best 30 min after opening. It lost its strength over time and flat the next day. Still a nice cab

  • A beautiful wine in a beautiful spot. And I also think this is my last one so I'm really quite bummed about that. Poured medium+ density with raspberry and black cherry cola nose and palate both being the backbone of this wine. This wine has done an incredible job of evolving over the last few years. Black truffle, black cherry cola, figs, black cherry cola and a ton of it all. Finished with black pepper spice and resolving tannin. This wine is right at the top of the curve and the structure of this wine is just as massive as it can be. No sign of decline in any way therefore I still think this one has another 5-7 yr easy before it starts to show any tertiary notes, which would probably be quite welcome with the way this one has already gone. RYEW are Alexander Valley studs.

  • Decanted for an hour, poured with a pan seared NY strip. Shy nose of cocoa, tobacco, blackberries. Palate follows, sweet berry fruit coming forward. Mild fine-grained tannins, not a lot of acid. Very pleasant but IMO less interesting than it was when younger - herbal notes gone. Enjoy it, but drink up.

  • This wine is elegant. In a very good spot and haa softened and started to integrate nicely. Nose and palate of ripe blackberries and dates. Hint of green olive, fig, smoked black cherry, a little brambly with nice acidic character from the front to the finish. All elements are balanced quite nicely. Tannins are starting to soften. This wine is really starting to get to the pop and pour phase. I consider RYEW to be the Chateau Montelena of Geyserville, as these wines are VERY good initially, but don't start to really kick butt until closer to 8-10 years from the vintage date. I have one more of these and I'm definitely going to TRY holding this for a few years. (Fat chance of that happening,...but I'm sure going to try).
