Subtle aromas of cherry, cola, mushroom, a dry leaf or two. Light weight with a bit of sweetness that sputters out mid-palate. Nice wine, just past it’s prime and about to head downhill.

Medium bright red, no tannins. Mushroom, damp cellar, and strawberry on the nose. Bright red fruit, a bit tart. Smooth finish, but not much complexity or layers.

Volnay, Pommard & CdB 1er Cru (Chicago): Double blind. Enticing sweet red cherry, florals, spice and earth aromas. Palate shows a nice round, lush fruit profile in a light-to-medium body. Showing very Volnay. I guessed 07 given the lushness and approachability of the wine. Nicely complex and approachable Auxey-Duresses in this vintage.

Volnay/ Pommard (Mostly) Blind Tasting (Northside of Chicago): Served double blind to the group. Very approachable and balanced already with good red and black cherry. Very harmonious this young with medium+ weight. Seems very Volnay-like start-to-finish.
