I had a great experience with this wine despite it being fairly young. It was decanted for over 2 hours........that might be the reason. It hits the classic notes I expect in a Pauillac.

Dark core. Bouquet of mushroom dark cherries blueberries olives cigar box cafe au lait flowers.Nutmeg. Palate has moderate to high tannins slightly low acid. Good length. Flavours as for bouquet. Personality: more introspective than other Pontets but still masculine and more like a Latour than a Mouton Technical: Riedel Bordeaux. Drinking temp 15C. Best from 15 minutes post opening.May be aging faster than other vintages.

Was in Bdx in '17 and wanted to buy a few bottles to commemorate the trip there. This is my 1st bottle of PC from that vintage, purchased as futures when we got back to the States......
I know this was not the best vintage given, frost and other issues during the growing season. Result? It's a safe, solid, average vintage by this first bottle. Red fruited, not much barnyard on the nose. Not the usually highly fragrant PC nose I've come to expect. Just solid, basic Bdx elements on the nose and the palate. It's neither bad, nor great. It's there and it's very average at this point in time. I have 3 left to try over the next few decades. We'll see if it gets any better, or not. Not sure how LPB got a 96-97 out of it unless it's going through a phase right now and just not being very expressive. This was sampled over about a 4-5 hour time period overall.

Earth, black tea, crushed rock, raspberry, blackcurrant, cherries. Really quite layered with a nice long finish and incredibly smooth tannins. Very understated and elegant style. As Jancis writes, lacks a bit of a midpalate.
