Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Both wines were pulled as part of the Ampelos virtual tasting. The virtual tasting focused on the 2014, but once we blew through it,and following the tasting with dinner, we pulled the 2015. We double decanted the 2014, but simply decanted the 2015. Responding to my question of whether to decant or not, Rebecca and Peter both demurred saying popping and pouring is the best with wines of this age. The 2014 remains tight, revealing primarily cherry. Eventually, some cedar and black pepper appear and a faint finish of anise begins to lengthen. After an hour or so, something akin to roses appears on the mid-palate and slides into the finish. The 2015 is bigger with more distinct flavors. The mouthfeel of both wines are medium in body. The 2015 is “fresher”; the flavors more distinct and abundant; almost radiant. With Roaring 40s blue cheese, Flory’s Truffle cheese, molé and bread. Both clock in with 14.2% alc. Both Recommended, but the 2015 is preferred.
