Fabulous ageable wine with fantastic PTQ ratio Had it with grilled lamb chops and oven baked asparagus this time Soft nose, but fantastic blueberry fruit Juicy juicy juicy Soft tannins after 10 yrs aging Lingering finish This and the 2015 have been great buys!

Decanted off sediment, into bottle, followed for 30min.
Nose is a touch quiet but is fantastic and true to CDR. Cured meat, violets/lavender, raspberry paste. Palate is full bodied but doesn't feel heavy. The tannins are resolved and gentle acidity keeps things fresh, focused, and light. Fresh raspberries, lavender, soft herbs. Finish shows a good amount of structure, but it is soft and integrated. After that, floral notes, river stones, and very subtle bacon fat show over time.
8 years for an entry level wine and this is still fresh as a daisy. I do not detect any signs of age. Not overly complex but doesn't need to be, it is damn tasty. I'm very tempted to give this a 92, but I have to take off points for a quiet nose and a slightly underpowered palate (maybe by a notch or two). Very good 90 and excellent value at $15. If you prefer old world wines then grab as much of this as you can.
Drink now, at peak.

Between 1/2 hour and 1 hour of air in glass. This vintage of Guigal CDR has long been a favorite. The earth and meat aromas are here - but are more reticent. This strikes me as more concentrated than either the 2015 or 2016. Power packed. This excellent CDR has many years left! But.... this was my last bottle. If you only have a bottle or two of this - hold. If you have more, give it some air, and enjoy. ADDENDUM:(a) A glass left out overnight was still drinking well in the morning, confirming my sense that this was an exemplary vintage of this wine. (b) The following evening, the wine left in the bottle was delicious. (88-91).

Purple. Restrained tannins. Still good fruit and gentle spice. Not for further aging. Enjoy now
