Lovely Cab Franc. Another thumbs up for Argentine wineries, which have long been personal faves of mine. Just the right balance of fruit and peppery notes. For the price, very nice! Give it a minute to breathe. It’s worth the wait.

If you like red wine that tastes like green pepper, this is for you. There's more to it than that, but certainly this Argentinean Cabernet Franc is heavy on the pyrazines, a compound that provides green notes, including green pepper, so much so that it comes across like an especially green peppery Chilean Carmènere. As much as I like green peppery notes in red wine, it's all a bit too much, at least early on. The green pepperiness remains, but with time, hours or even a day or two, characteristic Cabernet Franc notes catch up, notably blackberry and black pepper, along with light earthy and meaty quantities, while the greenness broadens to include a wild herbal element reminiscent of southern French garrigue. With that time also comes a pleasant balance of acidity (cran-cherry tartness) and tannins (fine, almost chalky, leading to a bit too much bitterness on the finish) alongside the dark fruit and greenery. And so what begins as an 85-86 moves up to an 87-88, quite the surprise, and there's even room for additional aging, for softening and integration, even if there isn't all that much fruit and what's here could turn brown.

Yep...it is that good! A fine example of what can be produced in the New World, when variety and place are accentuated over fruit and lumber. Beautifully balanced, still evolving, and likely to improve. 91-92.
