Lots of cherry - stewed and sour. Not necessarily over the hill but definitely on tertiary notes now - almost port-like. Drink now - very interesting experience

Rich black fruit with meaty spice aromas. Mature black cherry with good density and concentration, black pepper, licorice and plenty of earth. Holding very well.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the '80s and '90s (Tabla, Portland, OR): Poured ~30 minutes after opening. Very cloudy, but through that the color is light. There's some stinky barnyard on the nose and not much fruit showing. There's some bright cherry and raspberry on the mid palate, along with strong acidity. Of course there is a bit of the funk from the nose in there as well, but less than expected. There's again lots of funk on the finish, some acidity, and no real tannins remain. Interesting, but certainly not delicious.

Wines of the Rhone (Casa de la Mata): Tasted blind. Showing its age. Nice earthy aromas with moderate remaining fruit. Palate is well balanced overall, a bit more on the earthy side vs. fruit.

Provence and Guigal (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Lovely, rich, inky nose, cherry, rich, intense licorice, hot finish, long fruity foinish.
