  • This wine was dark and opaque, dark garnet in color. It was clear with no sediment. It had great legs and a watery edge. The wine is relatively young and should hold up for 10 more years in the bottle. I decanted; but only for two hours. I am thinking that it would have done well as a pop and pour being only three years old. This wine was pleasantly aromatic with a lot of dark black fruit on the nose. The actual fruit was capricious but not muted. The black fruit aromas were so well blended that you could not single out what fruit you were smelling or tasting. With a lot of thought and reflection what came to mind for aroma was black cherry, black current, blackberry, and black plumb, none of which stood out. Contrary to my claim of black fruit, the only fruit that did stand out was a bit pomegranate, which is red, imagine that. Additionally, I got hints of pie crust and maybe some candied apple on the nose. This was a full-bodied wine, dry, with medium/bright acidity. It was well balanced and flavorful. On the palate the fruit was again capricious. I would say it was black fruit like black cherry, blackberry, black currant. I also got something reminiscent of caramel popcorn. Although this is one of Del Dotto’s lower end wines, it is without a doubt a good everyday wine and would pair well with any moderate fare. It would also be a great “go to wine” for unexpected guests and would be a crowd pleaser at a party.
