Had alongside a 2017 MacDonald and several other quality Napa cabs. This more than held its own, and had the group split as to which was best. interesting nose that seemed to change with each smell. Dark color, but not overly purple. Exceptional.

Espresso bean, asphalt, rhubarb, plum skin, mouth coating tanins, long finish 39th birthday dinner with last season’s elk made into stew served with polenta.

Opened to celebrate my wife's 65th birthday - the wine definitely lived up to the occasion. Decanted for about an hour before being poured into glasses. Amazing nose rising from the glass; fruit and some hints of warm spices. Drinking beautifully right now with great balance and finish.

Successful evening of luring friends to the dark side of wine: '16 & '18 Ontogeny and '17 Rhadamanthus
Aromas of dark yet with a bright sheen of red fruits, damp soil, a scent of flowers and clean river minerals. On the palate, and I loved the term my friends used for this, much cleaner flavors compared to the Ontogeny with dark red fruits, deep earth, river minerals and eventually graphite as well.
Initially muted both on the nose and a bit on the palate but eventually unfurled into tasty goodness. Flavors went from bright and clean to dark and brooding with about an hours time. Still drinks well now but might be going into a phase as that early muted stage worried me.

8 hour slow ox. Consistent with my 8/10/21 notes although wine is now slightly better. Just sublime.
