First of 8. PnP. Started a little closed with a muted nose and soft flavors of red fruit and spice. After an hour, nose started to come alive and the remaining tannins fell off. Not ever going to be great but immensely enjoyable and easy to drink. Glad we wait a few years.

Pnp. Will drink from today until next Saturday, when this will be consumed for dinner. Will update accordingly. Catena is a world class wineproducer, there is no doubt about that, but unfortunately prices for their wines have doubled in a few years. Anyway, a great wine, on the fuller side, of course, and a really good substitute for an overpriced Bordeaux (or the Californian equivalent). 94 for now, but could maybe reach 95.
Update: In my opinion this wine was best upon opening - it lost a bit of its charming fruit after a few days.

93pts. It was a very small Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino vertical this night - I opened this 2017, and fscov brought a 2018. They are very, very similar - proof that vintages in Argentina really aren't that relevant, except of course the truly difficult ones (like 2021).
This is more refined than your run-of-the mill Malbec, as it ought to be. Black plum, blackberries and raspberries' notes - quite primary yet, as expected. I decanted this 2017 longer than fscov his 2018, and it made a difference, albeit small - this was a bit more expressive and nuanced. Both are medium-bodied, and offer a good finish. This is not a great value, but one cannot go wrong here.

surprisingly good for a Malbec. Just had it decanted for an hour.
