Very primary at this point, with strawberry and cranberry on the palate, red fruits and a bit of spice on the nose. The color is dark purple and nearly opaque. Enjoyable, everyday Bourgogne

Burgundy, Day 1 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. From the Pressonnier lieu-dit. Shows incredible power for a Bourgogne; a function of the opulently ripe black fruit here. The back end shows a little bit of the roasted character of the vintage. No added sulphur. Muscular and powerful stuff.

Surprisingly dark in the glass. Reductive initially. Dark fruited and rather ripe. Pleasant but not particularly exciting.
WSET Notes:
Deep ruby.
Medium (+) intensity on the nose with black cherry, blackberry, smoke, earth and struck match. Youthful.
Medium (+) intensity and dry on the palate. High acidity, light body, medium (-) tannins, medium alcohol, medium (+) finish.
Can drink now but has potential for ageing.

Barrel Tasting at Sylvie Esmonin with Sylvie (Gevrey Chambertin - Clos St Jacques): Meaty and smoky nose. Impressively concentrated and rich for an appellation wine. Straight forward black cherry flavor profile but you'll be hard pressed to fine a Bourgogne of this stature. 88-89
