Was bound to happen sometime but after 10 years buying off the mailing list, we hit a bad bottle. I can't put my finger on it, it doesn't smell or taste corked but it was off. With air the nose improved - lemon citrus, marmalade, bruleed pineapple, but still off. The palate was wrong, a similar fruit profile to start but the finish took on a bitter almost medicinal quality... I kept waiting and tried the wine several times over an hour before I finally poured the glass down the drain. I have the remainder under glass cork in the fridge so we'll see if magic happens overnight but I'm not hopeful.
Like I said though, 10 years running with a bunch of wonderful bottles (and more in cold storage to enjoy) so maybe we were due for a dud...

This stuff never seizes to amaze me. It is so non traditional. So unique. So unorthodox...but amazingly delicious. Most predominant notes are citrusy. I've always favored orange tang with balanced minerality, sweet tropical notes and zest. Good concentration and mouthfeel and extended finish

I waited as long as I could to finally try but gave in. 66 Grenache Blanc/28 roussanne/6 Chenin Blanc. Inaugural vintage for the Saxum white.
As a fan of white Rhône style wines, I expected the youth to show in an overly savory/waxy way, but I was pleasantly surprised how open this was. Pop and pour. Medium gold in the glass. Classical roussanne notes of orange marmalade and apricot, alongside salted almonds and yellow fruits. Gorgeously opulent on the palate but the Chenin gives it a spine of acidity to keep it dancing. Honey-roasted cashews, honeycomb, lemon cream, underripe pineapple and a little beeswax.
This seems fairly open for business, so no regrets on opening. Little bit of air and it’s ready to rock.

Nice white blend with good structure and length. Complex enough to stand up to heavier dishes.
