  • Found on the shelf of a French supermarket a few weeks ago for just 19 euros. Vineyard planted to around 80/20 Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon, but it's not clear what the blend is for this vintage. More tropical than the 2020 Bordeaux blanc tasted next to it. A touch of oxidation with bruised peach fruit and caramel. Actually more acidity than the 2020. Some herbs, spiciness and a creamy feel. Like most Bordeaux blanc of this level, it is vinified in French oak and aged in French oak. In this case, about 30% was new oak for about 10-12 months. 665 cases made. Although it’s far from over the hill, it was probably fresher, more acidic in its youth which could affect your food pairing.

  • Ooh! This is interesting. A strong whiff of gunpowder on the nose, with perhaps some fruit behind (maybe some exotic sort of orange). Bright fresh acidity on the palate, but not aggressive. A little nutty (in a good way). Citrus, with pith and zest. A bit peachy. Tantalising and it dances on the tongue in a delightful manner. A bit of petrol/slate/flint? The finish is unremarkable, but this is great. Makes me want to eat a chunky bit of turbot or suchlike.
So fresh for a 15 year old wine. I see no reason it won't last another 5. Other than that I'm going to drink it, that is.

  • UWS; A mixed set of wines (@ JB): The bouquet is still locked, but shows good yellow fruits and some citrus. On the palate loads of ripe pineapple, a full bodied wine with a pleasant balance between acidity and sweetness,

  • Heavy oxidative notes, should've been drunk by now.

  • Mini Bordeaux 2006 horizontal after a business trip: white and red. Straw yellow color. Nose of butter, walnuts, caramelized pineapple and coconut. I drink these rarely but it's it's a style of Sauvignon blanc I enjoy: not sweet or tart. Lots of oak but nicely balanced with the nutty, buttery, toasted tropical fruit and cakey texture. With decent concentration and length, it's not a monster but very good.
