  • Decanted for 1h in morning, then back into bottle and drank 13.5h later. Aromas of cherries, ripe blackberries, garrigue, olives and medicinal herbs. Palate with sweet cherries, ripe blackberries, garrigue, medicinal herbs, and a fair amount of black olives. Full bodied with moderate tannins, good but not great acids. Some more bass notes. Lots of personality here but not quite feeling this one today. Maybe it's the ripeness of fruit that's not quite fully balanced by the acids. Regardless, it's young for sure and would benefit from more time on its side.

  • I shoulda bought a case. Great example of a No. Rhone VV to me. Rustic and structured, start to finish. This stands to taste delicious for the next 5+ years with no problem, probably longer if you can hang on to them. Not me, I’ll drink ‘em up.

  • Rocking St.-Joe and easily the most impressive bottle I've had to date from Desestret with the possible exception of the white of the same vintage. But I like it more than the 2015 and even like it more than the reserve 2016 they put in that heavy bottle with the fancy black label. In the past I've found this bottling a bit too simple of a fruit bomb seasoned with a little bacon but this one has much more going on, and it's absolutely packed with it with power and complexity transcending the appellation. It's plastered with Northern Rhone personality but less so the bacon than intense pepperiness seasoning fruit rich enough it feels like it could stick to the walls of your palate before being whisked away by a lively acidity that somehow manages to give it the chops of a summer thirst-quencher. This really has the soul of a perfect bistro wine - would love to have this on the patio one summer night with some classic grilled hanger steak frites with a heavy hand on the cracked pepper.

  • Had meant to pull the oldest vintage out of the cellar (2015) and accidentally grabbed the youngest. Drank over two nights. Night one this was all burly and young with lots of ripe fruits. Night two this settled down immensely and showed a bit more stony/granite character. Overall an nice value. Need to pull something older to see how they are developing.

  • This is very young, but I opened it to find out whether to buy more. Blueberry and camphor on the nose; currant, grape jelly, and blackberry on the palate, with notes of savory spice and white pepper on the medium finish, with good acidity. This was an excellent value at under $30. Although it should improve, at the price it's worth opening one now as a benchmark for the future.
