Big big wine. Tannins remind me of Howell Mtn . Dusty, gravelly nose. Black fruit for sure but the wine is pretty tight and closed up even after a 2 hr decant. It clearly has great depth but hard to get to at this stage-needs at least 3-4 more years to become what should be an exceptional Beckstoffer fruit Cab. Fortunately I have 2 bottles left!

Now after 24 hours we thought it would surely be ready to go. Brought it to a restaurant and it was still impenetrable although we did drink it. This will be great, but not pleasurable in its current state. Big dark fruit, thick tannins, not very integrated yet and not very open. This reminds of all 2018’s right after release. 5+ years for my next one.

I wanna put this back in the bottle and cork it for a few more years Drank next to a 2017 Stags Leap Artemis and the profiles are soooo different. . Intense dark maroon in color. No transparency at all. Heavy body. Nice legs on the glass. Cherry, oak, and call me crazy but banana on the nose. Yes. Banana. That’s a first for me. I had to confirm with the wife and she agreed. Very heavy tannis across the palate, from start to finish. Tart blackberries, tabacco, pepper. This needs food. Blue cheese. Something to cool the palate a bit. Just real big tannis on this wine. Put back in the cellar and don’t open until 2030.
A really enjoyable wine in its youth. A few more years will probably make a difference in the score. Dark fruit on the nose. The palate is dark berries, plums, tobacco and some tree bark and dried leaves. The finish is moderate to long.

Thought I had pulled the 2019 and didn’t realize it was 2018 until after I decanted and tasted. Very closed after 2 hrs in the decanter (even Paul wouldn’t drink it) so back in the bottle and recorked while we enjoyed the Quivet instead.

This wine is still young. Needs at least a couple of more years for flavors to integrate and tannins to soften.
