  • Drank with K, V and Seba. This was consumed after a Sassicaia, but had no reason to be embarrassed. Quite the contrary, the complex, evolved and balance aromas and palate were quite striking and likely more to my taste despite the 2009 Sassicaia's wonderful pure raspberry aromas. 92 or so.

  • Diam 10 cork. Nice medium-dark-for-a-pinot ruby. On the nose upon opening, concentrated aromas of red (raspberry, strawberries) and black (cherry) fruit, freshly extinguished honey bee candle wax/smoke and floral aspects - a difficult to describe fascinating perfume. On the palate, the attack is frank, striking, with the aromas as found the nose, carried by a good acidity and a fine seam of tannin. This is tightly knit and tightly wound. Cela “pinotte”! A very good length on the fruit with a moderate touch of stems. On the spectrum of “steminess”, the 2013 was the most marked by the stems, followed by this 2016 and finally the 2015 showed the most fruit in contrast. Unlike the 2013 and 2015, I’m not convinced this is ready to go yet. If I’d had a case, I’d enjoy one every year and watch it evolve. As I only have three left, I’ll likely wait till 2024 for the next one and enjoy the “Plaisir” in the meantime. I’ll watch this over 2-3 days and if it changes markedly, will update the note. 91 with potential upward potential.

With 6+ hours of air in the fridge - addition of faint popcorn and coffee - and increased delineation and precision of the fruit.

As with the 2015 - on the following day, the tannin reasserts itself as do the aromas from the stems. On the third day, still very fresh, perhaps a touch less visible tannin than on day 2.
