  • Not a typical Aligoté by any means. More deep and rounded rather than sharp. More orchard fruit focused. Good length and delicious, mouth-watering finish. Acidity and acid structure are terrific. Exceptional. 91-92

  • This winemaker has a bit of a "cult" following in the UK, so when I spotted a bottle in a new wine shop near where I live I thought I'd better see what all the fuss is about.
    Not cheap ~£40.
However, these days for a white "burgundy" a bargain!
Aligote seems to be having a bit of a renaissance, and the grape variety seems to be a beneficiary of climate change.
On the nose it struck me as being slightly oxidised but then I decided (after tasting it) that it was more nutty and reminded me of a mini-Meursault.
Clean as a whistle on the palate with a bright fresh acidity that you either like or don't, I do, but no fruit particularly evident.

Judging by other reviews I either have a useless palate or it's going through a "phase". As an interested amateur, I have no idea how one knows!

As a "wine experience" I'm glad I tried it but I won't be rushing out to buy it again. The grower's "sub-brand" simply called Aligote and featuring a bright yellow label is half the price and for my simple tastes way better PQR.

  • Bright greeny gold. Tremendous energy from the get go, this wine just feels free and alive. I've probably gone early but I have a full case so why not, and it is excellent already. Zingy, fresh, crunchy apples and citrus, pure and ripe on the palate whilst remaining straight and focussed. Very enjoyable with scallops and trout.

  • Green apple, grilled lemon, nutty, med body

  • Pretty good but not the revelation I'd been anticipating. Les Horées still has the crown for me.
