  • Wow!
This wine was absolutely beautiful at the restaurant last night.
Decanted, as it should be, this wine is probably close to its peak though in no danger of dropping off. Minimal browning in hue, great intensity and complexity.
Clearly a full-bodied wine but without being heavy. Sufficient acidity to keep a nice focus. Just stunning...

  • Decanted 2-3x with aerator. Let sit for 2 hours. Could certainly open more (or stand a few more years of age) but drinking really wonderfully.

Stilly tannic, Filled with Darcy fruit and savory notes like grilled meat. Definitely one to drink with food, esp something fatty like ribs.

  • Double decanted for five hours and benefited this wine by softening the initially harsh tannins. A very dark color verging on black, full bodied with the earthy, intense flavors went well with slow cooked braised lamb and clearly showed this is a wine that is best with food. A rare opportunity to drink a mature top Sagrantino wine.

  • By the glass. Preliminary and see if clarifies my mind ... in my cellar I have a 2005 bottle that is also an anniversary. How long has the anniversary lasted? Weren't they clear about the founding vintage? It seems like a joke ... On the other hand I am glad that my bottle is still laying down because this has to evolve a lot yet. At least to be able to be drunk without pain. On the nose a lot of ripe black fruit and in the mouth firmness and density in abundance. Indestructible tannic structure and a lot of oak. Better if you wait another ten years minimum.

  • Drinking beautifully. Decanted but suggest decanting 2+ hours. Tasted with lamb. Definitely serve with food and preferably grilled meat.

(Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG 25 Anni, Umbria) While every classic list should include the Collepiano, restaurants with an emphasis on the finest wines of Italy may want to feature verticals of this label, made from the best lots of Sagrantino and first released in 1993. The current version is still young and intense, with a nose of orange pekoe tea leaf, leather, sage, cinnamon, black cherry, red and black licorice, underbrush, porcini dust, black truffle, and sun-dried tomato. It is full-bodied and elegant, offering fine fruit and oak tannins that take on grip as the wine exits the palate. Graphite and tannins define the long finish. Decant before serving.
