  • wonderful...smells like wet, french earth as it opens...the musty rust subsides and a wonderful ripe cherry, apple, black currant, perfectly balanced burgundian pinot emerges. didn't want it to end...

  • Anna made Coq-au-vin...and a classic Burgundy was called for. I opened and decanted at 6:30, stealing a quick sip--rusty, musty, earthy and lifeless...viscosity of water, tasting as though it been run through old pipes. At 7:45 I tried it again--rust was gone, but the must hovered over the bouquet, tempering the fresh spring soil and emerging tobacco and leathery undertones; taste was still tight, but SO much more lively than the first sip. Poured at 9:30 with dinner: amazing! In 3 hours, the 8+ years this wine rested in its bottle were unleashed...even the color richened! Beautiful earthy minerals complemented the nuanced tannic structure...hint of white pepper, strawberry and truffle. Enough, but not too much...a perfect choice for an amazing dinner.
Proper decanting gives this vintage another 3-7 years at least.
