  • Brilliant bottle of wine. Purple/magenta color. Wonderful bouquet of fresh cut flower, ripe plums, dark berries, cream puffs, graphite, dust, pebbles and gravel. Quite the concentration, dense, dark and opulent. Keeps good acidity, amazing long finish.

  • Decided to open this last night while watching my beloved UConn Huskies cut down the nets for the FIFTH time in the last 24 years. Try and name another program with those stats- you cant.

Wanted to sip on something special and this delivered (just like Adama Sanogo dropping another double double, game in game out).

This will be another classic Sam The Man creation down the road, but as you may expect she's not ready for primetime (unlike the fellas from Storrs who beat teams during the Madness by an average of 20 points).

Decanted for two hours before diving in, and the last sips were the best (but to be honest, my vision was a bit "blurry" by that point).

A sommelier buddy was over and his comment of "this is Napa Valley in the best way" pretty much summed it up.

So now, I will let my other three bottles marinate for the next 5+ years, or maybe I say fuck it and pop another one next year when the Huskies are back in Phoenix trying to climb that ladder again...

    U C O N N UCONN UCONN UCONN!!!!!

  • An enjoyable wine but lacked a bit of complexity.

  • A few days late on the epic 2019 LPV showdown. All wines were opened at 12pm on Saturday and poured back into bottle at 5pm and then blinded. Drank over a few hours with family dinner (Tri tip steak, salad, mushrooms, roasted potatoes). All consistent with the Las Piedras vineyard we have come to know and love. Each was similar color (dark magenta) with no sediment from any bottle.

2019 Fait Main LPV - The blind winner of the night. It was most accessible from early on in the night and made me keep going back for more. I got the most chocolate from this. Silky smooth tannins. 98+

2019 Carter La Verdad LPV - Very good, well made wine. Good energy. Blackberry pie, loads of cassis. Smooth tannins. 97+

2019 Memento Mori LPV - This had the best nose upon opening the bottles and before they were blinded. This one came off a bit boozier at the start of drinking it before dinner that blew off by the end of the night. 97

There was no loser in this tasting. The Fait Main, right now, won by a little and even hits the QPR note at $175 versus the other two (is that QPR... probably not).

  • Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Generally an upward trend on elegance through this tasting. There’s a bit more loveliness to this wine. Powerful tannins but lighter overall mouthful of wine. Fresh. Dark fruits with more of a granite backdrop.
