  • Asparagus gang at Imperial Treasure. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Tasted blind.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of dark herbs, earth funk, dark red cherries, black cherries. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), resolving medium+ tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of ripe dark red cherries, black cherries, earth, dark herbs, bits of savoury meat. Medium+ finish.
Good quality. Seems rather un-Pinot-like. I was guessing Loire Cab Franc in a ripe vintage possibly 2005.
Wow amazed when shown that this was a 2005 Bourgogne Rouge. So apparently this was a tannic beast in its youth. Tannins are slowly resolving now, and ripe dark fruit is still pretty much alive. Only clue about its level is its rather straight nature without layers. My guess is that there is probably a large proportion of Gevrey fruit in here.

  • This is quite amazing , I am gobsmacked - this drinks between good village and 1er cru. Just early signs of evolution and this is coming well together with healthy acidity on the midpalate having receded. Very fresh. I will try to understand where the viens are located, likely Brochon. It has to be some of the quality dirt which escaped the highly human and imperfect construct of AOC hierarchy.

  • Bottle #3 of 3. Not sure this is going to get better. Still plenty of tightness, acidic bite, and structure, structure, structure, with great fruit, but this oxidized quickly the second day and I'm concerned it may never actually 'blossom.' Good, not a great bottle. I wonder if this got whacked in transportation or storage early in its life. A tight-fisted spinster.

  • This was barely "a like it". Bottle tastes the same as the other ones I own. Fairly muted on the nose, light fruit and some tobacco. On the palette much more ripe red fruit, very tart and acidic and dry finish. Had a hard time really defining the taste as the tartness overwhelmed the wine. Opened up a bit over the course of the bottle and became more balanced. Not my fav of my many 05 at the moment.

  • Blazing acidic frame gives way, with warming and over time in bottle and glass, to reveal stupendous fruit and complexity for a Bourgogne. Is this the 05 vintage's potential? If so..... Last note was probably overrated by a point or two, but this is seriously good. and will be for another 5-7 years, at least, for well stored bottles. Fantastic.
