I think these need 10 year aging. Or, long decant & better on day two--bitterness much reduced then and one can get the typical Cab Franc notes--actually a rather nice mouthfeel. Needs grilled meat or charcuterie.

A really tough act to follow after the 2005 Le Macchiole Paleo enjoyed earlier. As pointed out by others, many of these Chilean reds exude some tell tale aroma and flavor “markers”; to me I smell upfront sour, charred soil, mixed with asphalt and a heathy dose of sewage. Unfortunately, these distractions can mask much of the varietal fruit character. Even with decanting, it takes quite some time for the pure fruits to show. Eventually the raspberry, cherry, red currant, tobacco and chocolate start to evolve. At five plus years this seems youthful; it might improve with further cellaring.

Looks dark and ripe, but comes across a little thin and chalky with limited plum and red cherry fruit. We'll see if it rounds out some with air.
