Christmas Winps (La Trompette, Chiswick): Pale/medium garnet/mahogany, wide mahogany rim. Gently fragrant, spicy nose, lots of soil, touch of white pepper, underlying red fruit. Quite complex. Medium bodied, spice, mushroom, dried red fruit, resolved tannins, vibrant acidity, medium to good length finish. A pleasure to drink.

There's some noticeable greenness here, but it's in the background of the wine and acts as an accent to the fresh, pure red fruited flavours and savoury earthiness. The tannin's barely noticeable here, and there's bright acidity that keeps the flavours very lively.

Very pretty with fresh cherry and cranberry fruit framed by slightly tart green herbal flavours; it's very streamlined and light in the mouth with bright acids, turning a little more earthy and savoury on the back end.

Some preferred this to the Charmes Chambertin VV from the same producer and vintage, but I found this to pleasant, but no large upside in evidence; well balanced, good fruit, but no edges that gave you hope for the future, viscous
