I opened this half thinking it would be past its prime. It was enjoyable, with solid even fruit, and good structure and interest still. A simple but enjoyable merlot, though not so flabby and one dimensional as inexpensive merlot can sometimes be. A definite positive surprise relative to expectations (this was a gift).

A rich and fruit dominated merlot, but with some good depth and complexity. Typical plum and blue fruits. Very soft. Hints of pine and cedar. Very enjoyable and a good QPR.

Decanted for a few hours. Good QPR. Dark intense color for a merlot. Spicy white pepper on the nose backed up by dark berries. Forest notes on the front of the taste with a transition to a sweet blueberry finish. There is a lot of acidity and some suibtle tanins on the finish. Quite smooth. It is not likely to get much better, but it can still go a year or two if you are holding it. Overall, the wine has little depth and seems to hit a single note instead of an entire symphony, hence the lower score. Still, worth purchasing for a daily drinker in the sub $10 range.

Heavy tannins are main impression. Not my favorite.
