Friday Night @ Ripple (Ripple - Cleveland Park - Washington, DC): I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did, but it's solid stuff. Aromas of spicy cherries, red licorice and some brambly, earthy, floweral components. Rich on the palate, but the acid keeps it balanced. Silky texture full of berries and touched with wintergreen and peppermint. Yum. Very complex and worthy of a good decant.

Dark ruby color with a nose of elegant, sweet dark red fruit. It needs about 30 minutes to open and is a bit steely and tight at first. After opening, this wine presents a big dose of black cherry background with many complicated layers of bright, contrasting highlights: sweet red cherry, red raspberry, some tart cherries and strawberries. It is accentuated with black pepper spice, cola and candied fruit. Tannins are still moderate giving a nice balance and a big structure to the mouth feel. Long finish.

The style of this wine was much more in keeping with Burgundy than Oregon. Not very heavy-handed in regard to the fruitwith flavors of tart cherrieis and a relatively nicely balanced wine. Improved with time open.

Dark ruby color with a subtle nose of raspberry and strawberry. Tight upon opening -- could use 60-90 minutes of air. Black cherry and black berry with highlights of sweet red cherry and raspberry, some cola and black pepper.
