This 2001 Solaia was doing GREAT. The last time I had a Solaia was back in 2013 when I drank a bottle of 97 on the deck of LaValencia hotel in LaJolla near San Diego. So this one is more "aged" than the 1997 back in 2013. And this one, despite the scenery of LaJolla being infinitely greater than a Fort Worth tasting room, the notes of this 01 were infinitely greater (methinks the 97 was perhaps heat tainted a little bit). Nose of red figs, dried red plums, dried wildflowers and herbal tea. The palate mimicked the nose. A lot of red plums, red figs, red and black aged fruit, finishes with soft tannins, black fruit and black pepper spice. A little bit of cinnamon. I'd say that this one has entered the optimal drinking phase, so if you have this wine, open it and enjoy it!

Two hours in decanter, back in bottle, drum after 3 more hours. Just at its peak of youth, with fruit, earthy notes, some mild spiciness, perfect balanced, round, and firm at the same time, long. A great wine.

(ANTINORI SOLAIA) #2; COLOR-really nice; NOSE-very tight (could be the "Dummy Phase"); TASTE-pure silkiness from beginning to finish (riding the clouds), coats your palate, great raspberry, blueberry & chocolate tart, nice Asian spice, cinnamon stick, little tight, little charcoal dust, chocolate raspberry cream, very polished, extremely elegant, great tannin structure; WS-93; GV-93

Full body. Perfect balance and complexity after 3 hour decant. Still quite structured with mild tannin into the finish. Long life ahead

Full body, dark fruit flavors still quite primary. Nicely balanced. Recommend decant for sure, for both air and also sediment.
