7/11, good cork. Decanted and immediately served. Medium/deep ruby core, pale ruby/garnet rim. This is initially quite red fruited, flashes of plum, some earth, tea and chalky mineral. Medium bodied, plum and some darker fruit, spice, creamy edge, soft tannins - this is elegant and fine - fresh/vibrant acidity, lovely good length harmonious finish. Drinking beautifully, no hurry.

From magnum. Over dinner, no formal notes. Very open and expressive on the nose, good acidity and fruit on the palate. Elegant and rather subtle. Nice tannic bite towards the finish. Quite long. 92-94?

Maybe not a good year for the chateau. It seems (in general) to be in a 3-5 year situation after peaking out, but I like it at this ripe state of maturity. It is supposed to be "rigid and full-bodied," but this year it is light to medium-bodied and rather delicate. The nuance of withered red fruits, mushroom soupiness, and a slight greenness like melon and cucumber are the characteristics of this chateau. I would love to drink other vintages.

Vinous Icons of Bordeaux with Neal Martin (Legacy Records, New York City): Much more brawny and robust than the more feminine 2016. More dark and brooding in profile. Very nice complexity.
