They are probably known for their inconsistency. This one is one of the good ones and showing rather well. Touch of funk and Brett with pure strawberries, lots of tannin. The crunchiness and alluring red fruits reminded me of an Allemand but less the acidity and the oomph.
End of year celebration: Brought for a friend, popped and poured. Still burly and tight even after a couple of hours in a decanter. VA on the nose that was distracting for some others at the table. Not sure if the drying black fruit will outlast the immense structure here.

"The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Chicago, IL): I think it was a toss-up whether the group preferred this or the 2009 (I preferred the latter). However I'll readily admit that this wine improved significantly with air, becoming more intense and structural. The fruit is a pleasant mix of red and black, and definitely shows on the ripe side. A slight bit of spice (which was more obvious in the 2009) as well.

Lots of bacon notes intermixed with seemed like toasted oak which became integrated with air. An elegant Cote-Rotie, feminin and not showing the powerul vintage.

Still deep color and lots of fruit. Beautiful on the nose like the best of Rhône. The pepper is there but doesn’t overpower. Great balance. This was singing out of the bottle and got better with time and air
