PNP with wine club at year end dinner; shared with 2007 Kosta Brown and 2007 Archery Summit. Compared to the other two (and to other 2007 vintage PNs), this was surprisingly dark and robust, with strong dark fruit aromas and flavors, mushroom, forest floor, and leather. Medium bodied and generally well balanced, but still a bit bitter at the finish. The St Innocent Shea went well with the pork roast, but would benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring to smooth the tanins.

Cola & cherry nose. Complex layered red fruits, smoke and a hint of spice on the palette but still fairly tightly wound and needs more time to open up. Medium long finish with great balance of tannin and acidity.

Tasting The 2007 St Innocent Special Selections: Had over 2 nights next to the Momtazi SS. Left with the cork out. This is easier to enjoy. Aromas of citrus peel, spice, earth and a brambly fruitiness. But on the second day the aromas seemed to have shut down or got a little lost. On the palate there is big fruit and acidity. A sour raspberry element. The fruit lingers over the tannins nicely. Nicely stuffed with complexity and concentration. I found this great now but I am looking forward to seeing what the future unpacks.

Rich, full color throughout with dark plum to red cherry hues. On the nose the wine displays notes of dark cherry compote, wet leaves, clay, sandalwood, toasted blackberry bramble and barrel room. Slight but welcome funk. On the palate, this wine is a bit hot at 13.5% but not unbalanced, with bright acids and quiet tannins along a rich mid-palate to a lingering tart finish. Flavors are consistent with most Shea Pinots but this is rather full bodied and accessible for the vintage: bing cherry, blackcap raspberry, strawberry greens, rich baking spice and charcoal. Excellent. Drink 2011- 2018.
