In a nice place… intensity of fruit with a good structural base. Has life yet, and some tannins still lurking underneath. Spicy, long on flavor, and lovely finish.

Via Coravin. Cloudy dark ruby, no bricking. Nose of must, stewed blackberries, cherry twizzler, and a hint of cinnamon churros (hey, I call it like I smell it). Ok the palate the profile is similar. Tannins are present but fine and fading fast. A touch of bitterness and bracing acidity holds it all together. Not a lot of oak notes; maybe some coconut and vanilla on the finish (which is loooooong). Ontanon is a tremendously reliable producer and the QPR, at $30, is stupidly good.

Great old-school Rioja. Tasted up against a 2001 RDD GR and you could see the "modernity" of the RDD in comparison. Tannins are present but softened. American oak is noticeable with vanilla and coconut but not out of balance with the dark red fruits and savory notes. Very well put together.

This was a very enjoyable GR Rioja. Smooth velvety tannin. Typical dark fruit.
The one thing I couldn’t pick up was the American oak I so often associate with the better aged Rioja. Still very, very enjoyable.

Improved with 1 hour in the glass. Showing well and has several years remaining.
