  • This was the last of my half dozen and sadly it was corked. The previous bottles were all beautiful. This is the luck of the cork.

  • NY Eve tasting of 6 wines: Rather vegetal...petrol, undergrowth, dark cherry, spices...complex nose. Velvety smooth...ripe fruit and spices. Well integrated tannins and perfect harmony. Warm and very long finish. Beautiful right now...delicious! Average score from six tasters: 92

  • Brought to a dinner. Slow ox'ed for about an hour and drank without decant. Dark garnet, strong herbal notes and spices on the nose and on the attack, exceptionally rich and smooth black and blue fruit on the mid-palate, no heat despite 14.7% alcohol, bitter chocolate, tannins fully integrated. Medium plus finish.
Certainly a very good wine if you like rich and big wines, and still maintains some Cab Sauvignon typicity with its herbal notes. Reminds me quite a bit of a still primary 06 Ornellaia a few years ago.

  • When I Feel Heavy Metal Private Dinner (Restaurant La Piperna - Madrid): What were we expecting? An untamed bronco? A fruit bomb? An undrinkable oaky wine? A tamed bestie even?
Then it showed well-balanced between red fruit and wood, perhaps excessively soft but still kicking and giving long seconds of pleasure on the palate.
Quite good matching wild boar parpadelle.

  • After the ravishing 2004 vintage, the 2005 Altair features a solid and intense wine. Live violet, quite foamy on glass. Powerful nose of blackcurrant, candied cherry, blueberry, raspberry and flower. Black pepper also present. Despite the predominance of the cabernet grape, the merlot stands up here and defines the core of the palate. Fullbody and velvety, comes with a fruit attack and a good structure to sustain it. Palate is straight, intense and persistent. After the great 2004, the 2005 vintage delivers a solid wine, placing Altair among the best blends from Chile.
