Utterly bizzare. Agree with Niall (who kindly gave me the bottle from his case on the proviso that I wouldn't necessarily like it) that it's got that fizzy edge to it, but I saw no bubbles and don't get the cherry cola myself. Kind of fruity like a Beaujolais Nouveau but with loads of unresolved tannins and a pencilly taste towards the end like an ancient burgundy. I got the earthy (bretty? TCA?) notes at the beginning as others had noticed, but these reduced as I continued. This is probably at it's peak, whatever that might mean in its case, as there's secondary flavours but still with plenty of fruit.
Extremely interesting, but very, very weird.

I have a case of this and, frankly, it's been a chore working through it. It is grim. Purple in the glass, throws a lot of fine sediment. Double decanted; knocks out some of the fizz which can give it a cherry cola taste. After an hour: very woody, cedary, nose, with a good smack of alcohol. Palate dominated by cherries. Unresolved tannins, some spice, sharp finish. The wine has a medium body, some distant sense of an austere pinot noir on the finish.
Some of its rougher edges smooth out a little after a further hour or two. And it its defence, there's life in it yet: its flavour hasn't changed in the five years I've been crawling through this case.

Needs to be decanted. Initial a little sharp. After some air wine develops better but still the sharpness remains. Nevertheless, not bad for the money.

Tarry, blackberry, herb nose. Racy palate with nice acid and spice that really improved with air. Nice value.
