  • Pale, pale garnet brown with merest of faint pink hues. Aroma is quite animale', of game and fur, with cherry, hot tar, leafy and caramel notes. No tannin, light acids. Sweet in the mouth, simply a joy to drink, and with a splendid sweet-sour lingering finish. What a treat, and a stunning match at lunch with rabbit in olives, lemon and fennel on polenta. I've not has many CndP with this much age on, so have little with which to compare, but our host (who opened this bottle) is very happy too.

  • Nose : confit cherry is laced of tertiary aromeas with spices, cigarbox, game, meat and bacon. In the mouth the wineis opulent, still fresh with nice balance between gamy features and confit fruits. The finale is long and extremely pleasant.
Tasted side by side with 1978, I found it better than the 1978.

  • Ch. Clos du Mont-Olivet, Chateauneuf-du-Pape Dinner (The Conrad Hotel, Hong Kong): Drank from a magnum provided from the Chateau library. No bricking, totally transparent light Burgundy red colour, completely clear at the rim and very bright and fresh-looking. Quiet but charming perfumed nose with fried smoked back of bacon in the background and a touch of sous-bois and wild woodland strawberries.....a very complex if feminine and chiffon-esque nose.....lovely. Palate is burnt caramel and milky toffee rolling into creme brûlée (or the brûlée anyway), Madras coffee with condensed milk, framed in taut acidity. Asian spices, sandalwood and temple incense emerge on the finish and reverberate in the head on the finish .....almost Musar-like. Great length. Very special and quite captivating.
