  • I revisited this after having the '15 version from magnum at Cura in Lisbon (potentially the greatest meal of my life). This is much different and better than the bottle I had two years ago. Soft, polished, and rich but rather secondary with the fruit taking the backseat (not in a bad way). There is something that seems very Midi about this one. Big peppery finish. There are just so many nice wines coming out of Lisbon region now. Not sure I would re-buy this one but it is very nice.

  • $22 from Premier Cru in 2013 (back when they used to actually give you the wine you bought). My first btl of this. Nose has a touch of cork but it is drinkable (probably) and hopefully will blow off with some time. On the fence about clicking flawed and dumping it. First impression of one of sweetness, and last one is of heat. In between, some dark fruits, leather, lots of pepper. This is tasting more rustic (ie dirty) than I would have predicted and overall seems a bit hard and disjointed. Very masculine. I was expecting a ripe, polished, new-worldly wine (a style I dont particularly love) but instead this tastes like someone's grandpa in SW France made it in an old bucket in their basement. I have more of this and perhaps there is some btl variation.

  • Like a fat ripe California Central Coast Syrah. It's what I would have pegged this as if blind for certain. Has that tarry, ripe, dense saucy fat fruit like you expect from many wines of the region. Lots of grip still. But not interesting at all. It's funny how these wines just sort of hold still in expression over time. At least when they are young the fresh fruit is yummy. Once that fades you are left with a wine you hope will mature but likely never will.
