While the nose offered up modest amounts of red fruits, a little leather, and a wisp of spice, the flavors were coarse and thin with plenty of acid showing through. While palatable, it was not the soft, enticing Right Bank merlot style I was expecting, especially from this acclaimed vintage. Even if made in the "old style" before the Right Bank fruit bombs started showing up a few years later, this was pretty disappointing overall and I don't think its going to improve.

Typical aged Bordeaux on the nose. Primarily tertiary notes, lots of wood and forest floor. On the palate, far thinner than the nose suggests. Some acid, but little overall structure. Solid with food, but not a remarkable wine. Don’t expect this to improve
Amazing how this wine really became so much more interesting after a few hours of air in the decanter. A somewhat muted and boring wine upon opening turned into a very enjoyable and interesting wine with a lovely finish after a 5-hour decant. Very good QPR at $60 per bottle

Blue and black fruit, earth, oaky notes of vanilla, spice, cedar cigar box. Still dainty and fine, very smooth

I really think this is a lovely wine with a fabulously long finish… providing you decant for a good 6+ hours! Plenty of life left and excellent QPR!
