This started out especially green, but after 6 hours open, whilst still not really accessible, green notes fade leaving more a sense of mirepoix, sloe, damson, astringent and tannic. I have faith that with a decade or two this will evolve into something worthwhile but best forgotten now.

On opening that unmistakable Ponsot nose of smoke, forest floor, animale, red berries and mineralite. Decanted and subsequently quite closed, tart red berries and mineralite but very prominent acidity. Revisited 24 hours later this remains mineral/acid driven, still very young and primary but an incredible depth and breadth of spicy, dark fruited complexity with all sorts of savoury nuances. Wait at least 5+ years.

A fantastic '08, generally a vintage I've had mediocre success with, but this is really firing and doesn't have the acidic shrill of many other producers this vintage. Nice clean red fruit, some pine and underbrush, and great aromatics. This is an excellent red Burgundy that will continue to get better over the next 3-5 years, but I don't see any reason to hold off now. Sad to say I paid 50% of what this costs today only 5 years ago. Sigh

Very pleasant wine. Medium acidity, nice tannins, earth, forest floor, mushroom. Some slight bitterness, but not in a bad way. 91 points.

Deep fruit in tart heaven. Just a lovely and elegant Chambolle.
