  • Fantastic. Still on the rise but a number of years from its peak. Tasted it right after a 1985 Chabot Vineyard, which was still very good but on the fade. There are still tannins to be resolved, but once that happens this will be sublime. Has a much more “cherry-vanilla” style than other Chabots but has classic flavor profile nonetheless.

  • Still quite dark purple, no browning.

Soft nose of just oak and tobacco.

Palate shows silky red cherry, cedar, tobacco, faint red pepper, along with raisins. Finish shows a lot of cedar oak, probably used too much as it overpowers the fruit a bit. Good wine nonetheless, drink now -2024.

  • Very frustrating. This is clearly past the line where Beringer went over to the dark side. The 90's bottlings of Chabot Cab are fantastic, classic wines. While this shows the trappings of an oakier, more extracted modernism you can feel the fruit fighting underneath. There is some real nice dark concentrated Cab underneath the ripeness and oak. If they had take their hands off and let this be Cab it likely would have been a fantastic vintage. As it is it probably drank best closer to bottling. Now its sort of great Cab fruit gasping under oak and dying under the weight of it's massiveness. A real shame.

  • First bottle since 2011 and based on my notes and memory this has improved. Still some initial vanilla but this resolved in about 5 minutes. Wine has a Full velvety body with good dark fruits. Drinking really well right now. Not sure this improves with more age but should continue to hold well for at least a few years.
