(Standing Stone Vineyards Pinot Noir Finger Lakes) The heat of the 2007 is on full display here, the nose is ripe and fruity with red cherry and raspberry fruit aromas with leaf tobacco, leather and a faint note of acetone that blew off after a few minutes. The palate is similarly ripe with cherry leading the way, backed by leather, cherry cola, earthy spice and a tart cranberry note. The tannins are ripe and slightly velvety and the acidity is still fresh bordering on firm. The spicy finish is medium in length and tart with cranberries.

A nose with tart cranberry and forest floor, with a fresh and tart cranberry and raspberry palate. Still alive and well, with good color despite resolved tannins. Proof that NY Pinot can age nicely in warm years, even if unspectacularly. I'd expect a similar effort from Burgundy to cost as much or more.

Nice concentration and good structure. A little bit of funk on the aromatics and some monolithic red fruit character on the palate, but still well designed and elegant. My favorite of the Standing Stone reds that I had ordered.
