Tasted blind, this wine had a red/purple center with some red at the rim. The medium+ intensity nose put forth blackcurrants, clay soil, and some black spices. Amazingly, it seemed a bit tight.
In the mouth, this wine was light and refined but attractively integrated with notable tannin and very good length. While the attack was fruity the finish was serious and dry.
Amazingly, this bottle seemed a bit young and was arguing for 95 points. It was hard to tell if the fruit will fade with time, or if the tannin and dryness will decline and the wine will get even better. My guess is that this is at its peak and should be drunk after 3 hours in a decanter.

Double-decanted before we left home.Fully mature but not tired, tannins resolved, acids balanced, black cherries with mushrooms, forest floor, leather, and cigarbox. Long complex finish. Really in a nice place. A-

49 years old - whoa! The cork was completely saturated, if we had not had a Durand we might not have gotten it out without making a mess. It's on its last legs (IMHO), but is still very enjoyable. There is forest floor, mushrooms, leather and dark chocolate. There's also a whiff of bret, but it is not unpleasant and lessened during the evening. Tannins are mostly resolved, there is still a bit of grip though, and the acid is still fine. A very fine old Bordeaux.

Easy drinking Pomerol, the more relaxed and delicate side of Trotanoy as befits the vintage. Not at all tired. Splashy. Tannins resolved, good acidity. Very good but overshadowed by the other wines on the table tonight.

1971 Bordeaux (3030 Ocean, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida): I had to check the cork twice to verify that it contained the numbers “1971” since color, aroma and taste suggested something from the eighties or even nineties. Fantastic depth of dark cherry and berry fruit submerged in noble tannins and perfect acids. So delicious it’s practically gulpable. What it lacks relative to the other ‘71s tonight is that mysterious complexity and nuance of old age. Still, everyone enjoyed it and most picked it as Wine of the Night. A great ‘71 and much different from a recent bottle from a different source.
