Still deep ruby red color. Black cherries, black currants, blackberries, licorice, coffee and tobacco with floral notes in the nose. Blackberries, black raspberries, plums and hints of mineral in the flavor. A rich wine with a silky texture, nice complexity and acidity. The '96 Dunn Napa is well balanced, full bodied and has a long finish. No doubt that Dunn Cabernets (and Petite Sirahs) age well!

The bottle was brought to a restaurant, opened and decanted and tasted immediately. The nose was fragrant red fruits and the taste was similar. Pure and integrated it was enjoyable with the emphasis on dark cherry notes. As the evening progressed the wine seemed to gain weight and the taste became a dark fruit, perhaps of blackcurrants. A really enjoyable experience confirming how Californian cabernet can age beautifully.

Celebrating K (Chicago, IL): Good, not great Napa cab. There's a bit of a rust note that shows up on the back end that shows a bit of age, but at the same time, the Californian fruit is still prominent. Quite a bit of leathery tannins here, so it feels like there's still good material for aging, but at the same time, that slight iron note has me thinking otherwise. Anyway, still a mighty solid bottle of Bordeaux that goes very nicely with steak.

A very good and ready-to-go Dunn that fits in just right in a predominantly Bordeaux line-up.

Decanted for two hours. This bottle was terrific. The last bottle was just a little off from earlier ratings. This one was back at the top.
